Hermosa Beach Little League has a proud tradition of honoring one player and one volunteer each year with the Rory Wibberley Award for their excellence as role models in the areas of community service, teamwork, leadership, self-sacrifice and sponsorship.
Rory was a local resident who played baseball and other sports. He was a member of the Hermosa Beach Parks and Recreation Department who lead afterschool programs while coaching little league.
Rory went on to college and almost graduated from SCI-Arc University at the time of his death. He was 21 years old.
It has been said that the richness of Rory's character, not his batting average or free throw percentage, is what the community has come to honor and memorialize.
