In addition to utilizing paid, professional umpires for our higher division games, Hermosa Beach has also operated a Junior Umpire training program since 2009. 

Current and former HBLL players aged 13 -16 with a good working knowledge of baseball rules and regulations may apply for the program. If accepted, they are trained by our professional umpire group and mentored by our Director of Junior Umpires.  Once certified, they are then allowed to work various games as the secondary umpire, and in some lower division games as the primary umpire.

It gives our HBLL players a great first job doing what they already love, in addition to teaching them responsibility, accountability, and how to deal with (hopefully) occasional conflict. Qualified players may apply at the beginning of the spring season through this page of the HBLL website.
